The Challenge

Soundzipper was contracted to perform acoustic analysis and design for a jamming studio for Barker Road Methodist Church. The church wanted to construct a soundproof jamming studio with good acoustics next to the church hall.

The Analysis

The church had a limited budget for the construction of the jamming studio. Therefore, spot acoustic isolation solutions were implemented in the construction design.

The Design

An impact proof acoustic raised platform was constructed at one end of the room to provide vibration isolation of instruments such as drums and bass guitar. New drywall construction using Sylomer isolators was added, along with a lead-lined door with a custom viewport using acoustically isolated glass. Acoustic fabric panels on the walls provided acoustic treatment for mid frequency. Installing an additional layer of insultation on the existing mineral tile ceiling improved sound isolation and absorption there.

The church was very content with the jamming studio and were keen to broaden our project scope to include acoustic consultation for their church hall.
