The Challenge

Soundzipper was engaged to perform acoustic compliance testing at the Australian International School (AIS) Project Jewel, Block 5, located at 1 Lorong Chuan, Singapore. The goal was to assess the acoustic performance of the built structures, specifically focusing on sound insulation between a classroom and a corridor. Ensuring a quiet learning environment is essential for students’ concentration and overall educational experience.

The Analysis

Our team conducted thorough testing to evaluate the as-built conditions. The primary focus was on measuring the Apparent Sound Transmission Class (ASTC) of a glazed partition with a swing door separating the classroom from the corridor. The specified requirement was an STC rating of 45, with an expected minimum field measurement of ASTC 37, accounting for typical deviations in real-world conditions.

The Result

The testing revealed that the glazed partition with the swing door achieved an ASTC rating of 40, meeting the compliance requirements and falling within the acceptable range. This result confirms effective sound insulation between the classroom and corridor, contributing to a conducive learning environment. It was noted that the door lock cylinder was missing during the test; installing it could further enhance the sound insulation performance.

By meeting the acoustic standards, Soundzipper helped ensure that the Australian International School provides a quiet and focused setting for its students. This project underscores our commitment to enhancing educational spaces through precise acoustic solutions.
