The Challenge

Soundzipper was engaged to assess the acoustic performance of the training room at GovTech, located on Level 10 of 10 Pasir Panjang Road, Mapletree Business City. The primary objective was to evaluate the Reverberation Time (RT) of the room to ensure it provided an acoustically comfortable environment for training sessions

The Analysis

On August 30, 2021, Soundzipper conducted acoustic testing to measure the Reverberation Time (T20) in the training room. This test was performed using specialized equipment to assess how sound behaved in the space, focusing on how long it took for sound to fade away. The measurements were taken according to ISO 3382-2 standards, which ensure accurate results for rooms like this.

The Design

The training room was thoughtfully designed with several acoustic features:

• Three sides of the room have movable partitions with fabric finishes to help control sound.
• The front of the room features a combination of a whiteboard and groove polyester panels for better sound absorption.
• The ceiling is made from a mix of gypsum board and polyester panels.
• The carpeted floor further contributes to reducing sound reflections.

These design choices were made to ensure the room provided a well-balanced acoustic environment. The testing revealed that the Reverberation Time across key frequencies was an average of 0.69 seconds, which is ideal for speech clarity and effective training sessions.
