Soundzipper Acoustic Consultant: Candice Yung

The Challenge

Soundzipper was commissioned to perform acoustic compliance testing for the interior design fit-out at Harbourfront Tower 1, Level 9, Singapore 098633. Collaborating with D’Perception Singapore Pte Ltd, our objective was to evaluate the acoustic performance of various partitions and spaces to ensure they met the specified sound insulation requirements for a comfortable and productive office environment.

The Analysis

Our team conducted extensive testing on 41 different partitions and spaces throughout the office floor. Using precise measurements of Weighted Sound Reduction Indices (R’w), we assessed the effectiveness of sound insulation between areas such as meeting rooms, flex spaces, phone booths, and open office zones. Most partitions were required to achieve an Rw rating of 40, with specific areas necessitating higher ratings of Rw 47 or Rw 50 to ensure optimal sound isolation.

The Result

The acoustic testing revealed a range of performance across the office space. Several partitions met or exceeded their required R’w ratings, effectively minimizing sound transmission between key areas like flex spaces, phone booths, and meeting rooms. However, some partitions did not fully meet the specified requirements, indicating areas where sound insulation could be improved to enhance privacy and reduce distractions. These insights provided valuable feedback for making necessary adjustments to achieve the desired acoustic standards.

This project underscores Soundzipper’s commitment to creating acoustically optimized environments in collaboration with interior design teams. By thoroughly evaluating the acoustic performance and identifying areas for improvement, we contributed to shaping a workspace that promotes comfort, productivity, and well-being for its occupants.
