The Challenge

Soundzipper was engaged to perform acoustic compliance testing and assessment for the IHIS (now rebranded as Synpaxe) Office Fitout at 1 North Buona Vista Link, Synapxe Building, Singapore (Levels 2 to 7). The goal was to ensure that the newly constructed office spaces provided a comfortable and functional work environment by meeting the specified acoustic requirements. Creating an optimal acoustic environment is crucial for productivity and employee well-being, minimizing distractions and enhancing communication.

The Analysis

Our team conducted extensive testing across multiple floors, evaluating the acoustic performance in various room types including meeting rooms, training rooms, workstations, and executive offices. We measured the Apparent Sound Transmission Class (ASTC), Reverberation Time (RT), and Noise Criteria (NC) to assess sound isolation, speech clarity, and ambient noise levels. These measurements were compared against the acoustic specifications outlined in the IHIS Scope & Specifications Section D – Acoustic Requirement to identify any areas needing improvement.

The Design

To achieve the desired sound isolation, we implemented partitions with Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings ranging from 45 to 50 between different room types. Acoustically rated doors were installed to maintain the integrity of sound isolation. For acoustic treatment, the design incorporated acoustic ceilings and other sound-absorbing materials to control reverberation time, ensuring speech clarity within rooms and reducing echo. This comprehensive approach aimed to create an environment where employees could focus, collaborate, and communicate effectively.

The testing confirmed that the majority of the spaces met the specified acoustic requirements, effectively enhancing privacy, speech clarity, and overall comfort throughout the office.

The successful acoustic design and implementation at the IHIS Office Fitout demonstrate Soundzipper’s commitment to creating workspaces that promote productivity, comfort, and well-being. By addressing sound isolation, reverberation, and ambient noise, we helped establish an environment conducive to focused work and effective communication across multiple floors and diverse office spaces.
