Bukit Batok Recording Room

Soundzipper Acoustic Consultant: Candice Yung

Soundzipper Project Manager: Andy Zhu

The Challenge

Soundzipper was engaged to provide acoustic design and build services for a voice recording room at a HDB development in Bukit Batok, Singapore. As the recording room was located in a busy office, the sound isolation shall be carefully designed to avoid any noise transmission to the rest of the office areas, thus keeping the internal room Noise Criteria (NC) within specified range for optimal recording environment.

The Analysis

The sound isolation rating for the wall partitions are specified to be at least STC64. Their construction includes the use of vibration isolators and TECSOUND acoustic damping layers. The partitions are built full height from structural floor slab to ceiling slab to minimise sound transmission. The STC44 acoustic solid core door was installed with specialised cam lever handle and complete door seals including a threshold to maximise the performance. The acoustic suspended ceiling utilised vibration ceiling brackets and TECSOUND acoustic damping layer to provide STC77 insulation performance. The floor is fully covered with REGUPOL 7210C acoustic resilient layer to reduce impact sound transmission.

The Design

Per Soundzipperā€™s usual practice, a post-construction compliance test was conducted to verify the acoustic performance. The isolation rating, NC and Reverberation Time (RT) were tested to be within acceptable range. The resulting RT was tested to be under 0.4s mainly throughout the mid frequency spectrum.
