The Challenge
Sennheiser is an audio company that produces premium audio products which are the ultimate in sound quality. Their vision is “shaping today the audio world of tomorrow.” Our acoustic consultants were appointed by Sennheiser to perform acoustic testing and provide recommendations for the acoustic lab at Media Circle. The client wanted to build a quiet, echo free space for testing Sennheiser sound products with a limited budget.
The Analysis
The acoustic lab was tested to have an NC (noise criteria) rating of 32dB and a RT (Reverberation Time) of 0.46 seconds. We found that air conditioner noise created issues at the lower frequencies that would require treatment. The inspection also found that there was a breakout box for audio cables that required us to make a direct penetration in the wall while keeping the room soundproof.
The Design
In order to comply with the budget restrictions, cost effective technical vibration isolators from Sylomer were used to reduce the overall weight and depth of the construction. Modular foam acoustic panels and curtains were selected to keep costs low as well. Tecsound damping membrane was included in all wall partitions to ensure the construction had sufficient mass to counteract the 100-200Hz low frequencies issue. We also utilized a sufficient amount of Knauf Acoustic Putty to ensure that all outlets had an airtight seal.
The client was very satisfied with the final design product.
